Michael Jackson, Director of Technology at AT&T, tragically lost his life in a wrong-way crash on the President George Bush Turnpike in Richardson, Texas, on August 13, 2022.
The incident occurred around 4:30 AM, when a driver stopped on the side of the road, made a U-turn, and re-entered the turnpike heading in the wrong direction. Cameras and sensors on the turnpike immediately alerted the North Texas Tollway Authority (NTTA) about the wrong-way driver. Despite efforts by Texas State Troopers to locate the vehicle, the driver continued going the wrong way for approximately 8 minutes before colliding with Michael Jackson.
In response to this accident, many of Michael’s friends have been working together to develop technology capable of sending FEMA alerts to nearby drivers when a wrong-way driver is detected by traffic agencies.
